Materials Needed To Craft An Easy And Radiant Citrus Suncatcher with Dried Fruit

- Pre-dried citrus fruit slices (oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits)
- Beads – Hand dyed with turmeric and moon water – check them out in my shop.
- Sinkers (from fishing tackle)
- Twine or fishing line
- Wooden stick or piece of driftwood
- Sewing needle
- Pliers
- Scissors
Step 1: Acquire Pre-Dried Citrus Slices

Purchase or prepare pre-dried citrus slices in an assortment of colors and varieties. These slices should be fully dehydrated and ready for use. Choose from oranges, blood oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits. These give you a beautiful rainbow of colors. Check out this guide for how to dehydrate orange slices.
Step 2: Select Your Hanging Base
Choose a wooden stick or piece of driftwood to serve as the foundation for your suncatcher. If using a stick, you may want to drill small holes along its length to attach the citrus slices.
I used a fishing line and tied a knot at the top for each citrus strand. You can make a notch in the wood if your lines move too much.
Step 3: Create Your Design

Lay out your design on a flat surface and rearrange it until you get the right look. You can make it symmetrical, abstract, or any design you like.
Step 4: Cut Twine or Fishing Line
Cut lengths of twine or fishing line for attaching the citrus slices to the wooden base. The lengths can vary to create an aesthetically pleasing arrangement. Cut longer pieces than you need to be sure you have enough to work with.
Step 5: Attach Citrus Slices

Thread the needle with the fishing line and tie on a bead or two. Secure the bottom end with a sinker. Working from bottom to top take each pre-dried citrus slice and sew the fishing line 2x through and around the bottom and top of the rind for each piece of citrus. Space the slices evenly along the length of the line and continue sewing until you have secured each piece of fruit.
Step 5: Assemble on Wooden Base

Attach the twine or fishing line to the wooden stick or piece of driftwood. If you drilled holes in the stick, thread the twine through and secure it with knots. If not, tie a secure knot at the top at the length you want your thread to hang.
You may want to have a partner hold it up so you can get the desired lengths for your design.
Step 6: Secure and Trim
Secure the twine or fishing line with knots to ensure the citrus slices are firmly in place. Trim any excess twine for a neat appearance.
Step 7: Find the Perfect Spot

Find the perfect spot to hang your citrus suncatcher—a sunny window, a porch, or any place where sunlight can dance through the vibrant, dried slices. Watch as your DIY creation casts a beautiful array of colors and patterns, bringing a touch of citrusy joy to your space.
Step 8: Hang and Enjoy
Suspend your completed suncatcher from a hook or branch, allowing it to catch the sunlight. Watch as the pre-dried citrus slices cast enchanting patterns and hues, transforming your space into a radiant oasis.
Make a simple larks head knot with twine or jute at the top.
